Beer-pedia.com and Corfu Microbrewery, Ltd. team up to release Ionian Epos Barleywine
Tweet January 18, 2011After my recent trip to Greece, I became friends with George Iordanides, of Beer-pedia.com. He let me know some time ago that he was working on coming out with a beer, and I can now share the details with you. I saw a lot of different varieties and brands of beer in Greece, but I didn’t see a barleywine. I’m hoping to get my hands on samples of this for review purposes, so I’ll be sure to let you know how it is!
Cheers,
The Beer Snob

The proud team behindIonian Epos Barleywine
According to Homer’s Epos “Odyssey”, Alcinous, the king of Phaeacians, kept barleywine in the basement of the palace in gold and silver crates. 2,800 years after the story was written, it has inspired two friends to join forces and create their own epic barleywine, Ionian Epos.
Spyros Kaloudis, owner of Corfu Microbrewery, Ltd., and George Iordanides, owner of the website Beer-Pedia.com, have teamed up to create this new beer, unique among Greek beers.
A limited edition product (only 4000 bottles), Epos is top fermented, and double fermented for clarity. The barleywine is made with the best varieties of barley, hops, yeast and honey, without the addition of preservatives, sugar or other additives.
Although most barleywines hold up well to aging a couple of years, this barleywine, which weighs in at 7.5% ABV, is a “fresh” barleywine, and is best enjoyed within the first three and a half months.
The promising “Epos” was released in the Greek market in order to be available for Christmas but can be enjoyed throughout winter as well.
